My Secrets to Success
Apparently, there are not a lot of 7 figure bookkeeping firms out there. Or so I have been told. For years it has been said that the only way to get to 7 figures would be to add tax services, which can generate a lot if income in a short period of time. We do not do taxes here at Spark. But we are a 7-figure firm.
How We Started
So, how did we do it? I am not entirely sure, to be honest, but here’s what I came up with…
I think I started by focusing on creating a place I would want to work at. This includes a lot of conscious thoughtful energy put into ‘Team’ and ‘Culture’ and policies and traditions – that people want to be a part of.
Open Door Policy
This also required me to have a very open door, no ‘stupid’ questions, ‘let’s brainstorm and figure this out’ mentality. This means that I am fully aware that I do NOT have all the answers. It never even occurred to me that I was supposed to. I have always learned from others, not just the ones smarter than me, but the ones just different than me.
Radical Honesty
I have also always promoted the practice of radical honesty… this honesty always coming from a place of empathy, caring, learning – but delivered black and white and clear as day.
This communication style and open-door community has allowed me to clarify the vision for Spark with the very people who make Spark what it is. This way, my vision becomes theirs and, in a sense, vice versa, so that we are all on the same page, with the same vision, and the same goals. When you have that, the sky is the limit.
Out Team
The common denominator here is Team. Your business cannot grow without it. And that’s not just about having warm bodies to fill positions. It’s getting them to fully engage in not only what you do but in who you serve. I believe that it is your team who truly brings your vision to light
